Tour Program
It is recommended to meet with guests the day before checking into the guesthouse or hotel.
Day 1:
After a preliminary briefing and familiarization with safety rules, we saddle our horses and set off through the coastal forest of Lake Sevan. Our route runs 4 km to the east through the fields adjacent to the Vaghashen community and further into the Vardenis mountain range. We will drive along mountain roads for about 10 km and stop at a parking lot called Prudi (Armenian Ponds). Here an SUV with guests’ belongings, sleeping bags, tents and dinner will be waiting for us. We will start our journey at an altitude of 1900 m above sea level and set up camp at an altitude of 2650 m.
Day 2:
Today’s route leads to the highest shrine in Armenia – the chapel of St. John on the top of the Vardenis ridge (3370 m). The road passes close to the edge of the gorge, but is absolutely safe. We will arrive at the chapel at about 14:00. Here, an SUV with dinner and a camp will be waiting for us again. On this day, we will drive 13 km, which, taking into account the ascents and descents, makes it one of the most difficult. We will start at an altitude of 2650 m, climb to 3370 m and descend to 2300 m.
Day 3:
After a tough day’s trek, the third day starts an hour later. After cleaning and feeding the horses, having breakfast and packing up the camp, we set off. From the valley, we head north to the Homer trail. Here, guests can meet the mountaineers, communicate with them, visit the exclusive khachkars of the 12th-century monastery complex, the chapel of St. Stephen and a historic underground cave. After a short break for buns and rest for the horses, we head to the city of Martuni, where we arrive around 17:00. On this day, we will cover 23 km. We will start at an altitude of 2300 m, rise to 2800 m and descend to 2000 m.
The fee for one day per person is 90,000 drams, which includes horse rental, three meals a day, guided horseback riding, off-road vehicle services, transfer to Yerevan at the beginning and end of the hike, 2-3-person tents, sleeping bag is not provided.
