In Armenia you will find not only a rich history, but also majestic natural attractions. One of these pearls is Lake Sevan, which is famous for its trout and crayfish, framed by picturesque mountains and legendary monastery complexes. We can try delicious fish kebab, drink coffee overlooking the lake and, of course, take a walk through the Dilijan forest.
Our journey will begin with a visit to the Sevanavank monastery complex, which is located on the high shore of Lake Sevan. This historical complex impresses with its architecture and unique atmosphere, and the views of the lake are breathtaking.
Next, our route will take us to Dilijan, a small town surrounded by dense forests and natural reserves, a picturesque mountain resort with healing climatic conditions. It is located in the northeast of the Armenian Highlands and is almost completely surrounded by the green Dilijan Nature Reserve, which is considered one of the richest in biodiversity in the South Caucasus. The city itself has been declared a national park, emphasizing its environmental value. Here we can enjoy the fresh mountain air, taste healing mineral waters and walk along picturesque trails.
Departing from Dilijan towards the village of Teghout through protected beech forests, the path will inevitably lead you to the majestic Haghartsin monastery complex, an architectural masterpiece of the 11th-13th centuries, hidden among green mountain forests. Haghartsin is a hidden treasure of the canyon and one of the most mysterious corners of Armenia.
The Haghartsin complex is located high in the wooded mountains where eagles live, hence the name of the monastery, which means “game of eagles” in Armenian.
Finally, our path will lead to the Goshavank Monastery, a magnificent example of medieval Armenian architecture, in the picturesque mountain forests near the village of Gosh. Discover this historical gem, which was once renowned as an outstanding educational center.
