Armenia is not just a land of ancient history. It is a land of light, color, form and inspiration. Its spirit has inspired Armenian artists for centuries – those who conveyed the national character through brush and canvas. In this article, we invite you to go on a special journey – in the footsteps of great Armenian artists, to see Armenia through their eyes.

Aivazovsky: Sea Soul, Armenian History and the Spirit of Mount Ararat

Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky (Hovhannes Ayvazyan) is not only the world's greatest marine painter, but also an artist who deeply felt his Armenian identity. His paintings are imbued with themes of national pride , spirituality and the cultural memory of the Armenian people .

This is why a monument to Aivazovsky was erected in Stepanakert – not only as a recognition of his artistic genius, but also as a symbol of the cultural identity of Artsakh and the Armenian Diaspora . However, today this monument is under threat: instead of being preserved , it is being destroyed , which causes deep pain and indignation among all who care about Armenian culture and its heritage. This event only emphasizes how important it is to preserve and remember the contribution of Armenian artists , wherever they created – from Feodosia to Yerevan.

Where to see Aivazovsky's works in Armenia:
National Gallery of Armenia (Yerevan)
– Private collections, temporary exhibitions

"Portrait of Archbishop Gabriel Ayvazyan"

One of the most personal and rare portraits painted by Ivan (Ovanes) Aivazovsky is the image of his brother, Archbishop Gabriel Aivazian . In this work, the artist moves away from the marine theme and turns to spiritual depth and family closeness . The image of the archbishop is full of nobility, calm and inner light. His stern gaze, modest mantle and medallion emphasize the priestly path and intellectual mission.
