    1. How New Year and Christmas are celebrated in Armenia

Armenia lives in a special rhythm in winter: here, a noisy city festival, warm family traditions, and ancient Christian culture come together.

    • New Year’s is the main secular holiday. From December 31st to January 1st, there are mass celebrations, open-air concerts, fireworks, and New Year’s programs in restaurants and hotels. Yerevan literally doesn’t sleep during these days: squares are filled with stages and music, cafes offer festive menus, and hotels host gala dinners.
    • According to the Armenian Apostolic tradition, Christmas is celebrated on January 6th , immediately following Epiphany. Solemn liturgies are held in churches and monasteries, followed by the “Blessing of the Waters” (Jurorhnek) ceremony , commemorating the Baptism of Christ in the Jordan River. This is a very atmospheric event, which both locals and visitors flock to.
    • The festive season usually begins in early December and lasts until mid-January : Christmas trees are lit, winter parks and skating rinks open, Christmas markets, festivals, concerts, exhibitions, and gastronomic and wine events take place.
